Working in Tandem: A Shared View of Lien Issues for Recovery and Titles Teams

Recovery and titles teams share a lot of common ground. Both want accounts to keep moving, and both have a hand in protecting the collateral. In many organizations, though, they work in different systems, so questions like whether a lien is perfected or a title issue has been resolved can take a few emails and a lot of waiting to answer.

Lien issues are where that distance tends to show up most. If a lien check with MBSi comes back with an issue (no lien on file, a different lienholder, a title issued in another state), the case pauses while it’s sorted out. The more easily both teams can see that result, the more quickly they can work through it together.

Spotting lien issues earlier

For teams managing a high volume of cases, keeping track of lien status by hand can take a lot of time. MBSi’s Lien Verification solution is designed to take on that work, confirming who holds the active lien on an account before any recovery action is authorized.

Lien Verification uses VINchex data covering 48 states, with an accuracy rate above 87%. VINchex checks each result against multiple data sources. Portfolios can also be monitored on whatever schedule fits your business, so lienholder changes surface as they happen. Lien Verification works alongside your existing tech stack or directly within RecoveryConnect, depending on how your recovery process is set up.

The goal is a faster, more accurate process with less of the compliance risk that can come with unverified recoveries. And when an issue is flagged, the natural next step is getting it in front of the people best placed to resolve it.

Manual vs. automated lien verification: where are your gaps?

Most lien losses happen in the window between origination and default, when no one is watching. Our one-page guide compares manual and automated lien checks side by side, from data coverage and speed to cost per report, so you can see where lien losses are most likely to slip through. Introducing Lien Verification Manager access

Lien Verification Manager access is one way to bring those people closer to the work. It gives titles team members a view into your lien verification queues, with the same results your recovery team sees as they come in. Each flagged case includes the details that help them get started: the current lienholder, the title state and the date of the most recent record.

We kept the access focused on lien verification. Titles team members can review cases, work the lien queue and take action, without repossession assignments, agency management or invoicing in their view. Your recovery workflow stays just as it is.

Working in tandem, not in sequence

With both teams on the same platform, much of the back-and-forth can fall away. A titles specialist can pick up a flagged case without waiting for it to be passed along, and someone on the recovery side can check its status without needing to follow up. Each team keeps doing what they do best, with the same information in front of them.

It can also mean an earlier start. A lien issue found before repossession leaves more options open, and having the case details ready the day it’s flagged gives your titles team more time to correct the record, reach out to the right state agency or decide on next steps for the account.

One platform for your recovery and titles teams

Every organization handles lien issues a little differently, and the Lien Verification Manager access is meant to fit around the way your teams already work. Our hope is that it makes the handoff between recovery and titles a little lighter, so both teams spend less time chasing information and more time resolving the issue.

If you already use Lien Verification, any user who manages the Company Employees page can add Lien Verification Manager access whenever it makes sense for your team. We’d be glad to walk through it with you.
